Wizkid ft Tems ‘Essence’ sets record as the first Nigerian song to hit platinum in the US

Chart Data, a reputable source, broke the story recently prompting celebrations in the country Nigeria. This comes just two weeks after the song was certified Gold in the United States, earning Wizkid’s second Gold record after Drake’s ‘Come Closer.’

Standard singles are certified: Gold when it ships 500,000 copies.

Platinum when it ships 1,000,000 copies.

Multi-Platinum when it ships at least 2,000,000 copies. 

With this achievement, ‘Essence’ becomes the first Nigerian song to achieve platinum status in the United States.

The song ‘Essense’ has been in the official Billboard hot 100 for quite some time now, holding the top 20 spot for weeks. After a recent drop last week, ‘Essence’ has climbed back to No. 17 in the charts.

Turntable Charts, Nigeria’s main music chart publisher, recently stated that ‘Essence’ is the third most popular Nigerian song of 2021 so far.

While this win is attributed to both artists, it has certainly done more good to terms, who has witnessed a massive boost to her music career. She was recently ft in the international pop star Drake’s new album.

We can only hope for more wonderful collaborations from the two Nigerian artists in the future.
